Feather’s First Obstacle Course With a Rider ❤️ A Beautiful Milestone

This was such a beautiful milestone with Feather. ❤️ I’ve had her since she was a year and a half old, and now, at seven, with her spine fully developed, she did the obstacle course with a rider on her back for the first time.

We started exactly the way Feather has been raised: slowly, with choice. Angie took her through on the ground first, then I climbed on while Angie continued to lead, and finally Angie stepped away, and Feather and I did it alone with me holding the reins.

When she stepped off the tire, she paused with her hindquarters raised for the longest time before gently bringing her back feet down. It felt as though she understood that carrying me changed everything and she was figuring out how to take care of both of us.

Feather has been raised with positive reinforcement, clicker training, bitless bareback riding, freedom of choice, and respect for her “no.” Today I felt the beautiful result of all those years of trust. What an incredible first for us! ❤️🐴
