Medicine of the Herd
80-Minute Feature Documentary
Four strangers.
Four weeks.
One Herd
What begins as a training retreat with seventeen rescued horses becomes a journey into healing, connection,
and the ways humans relate to the natural world.

Feature Documentary
Medicine of the Herd is an 80-minute cinéma vérité feature documentary filmed at Starr Horse Retreats in Northern Nevada.
Rather than telling people what healing with horses looks like, the film allows viewers to experience it firsthand. Over the course of a month-long retreat, four participants arrive carrying very different life stories. As they spend time with a herd of rescued horses, unexpected moments of honesty, connection, and transformation begin to unfold.
Why We Made the Film
For more than twenty years, I’ve believed horses have something profound to teach us—not through dominance or training, but through presence, authenticity, and relationship.
Medicine of the Herd grew out of that belief. It wasn’t created as a marketing film for Starr Horse Retreats. It was created to honestly document what can happen when people and horses meet with openness, curiosity, and compassion.
