Second Day of Our Four-Week Positive Reinforcement Program

Here is a glimpse into the second day of our four-week positive reinforcement program at Starr Horse Retreats

There is a kinder way to work with horses. People do not naturally have a desire to kick, whip, or punch their animals. And yet, we have created a generation of angry and abusive riders who are specifically being TAUGHT how to be angry and abusive. Horses are whipped, gouged with spurs, cross-tied, noses twitched, and gums chained, and this cruelty has become so common, normalized, accepted, and taught, that nobody even blinks.

We would be outraged if our dogs were trained in this manner. There is a better way. Positive reinforcement is a beautiful way to connect with horses for training, and we offer it right here in Minden, Nevada—30 minutes east of South Lake Tahoe—at our Whole Horse, Whole Human Positive Reinforcement Certification program taught by Ari Krause of Haven Horsemanship.

Please, let’s change this generation of angry and abusive riders. We can be better. We can change our relationship with these amazing partners that have stood by our side all throughout history. Let’s look in the mirror and ask, “Why?”

Spring session begins March 30th - April 25th, 2025
